John Noble

Managing Director

John Noble’s illustrious career in the finance industry is a testament to his
visionary leadership and unwavering dedication. His journey commenced in
the sun-kissed city of Santa Barbara, California, in 1981, where his keen
financial acumen quickly propelled him from an insightful advisor to an
accomplished manager. His trailblazing efforts at Smith Barney did not go
unnoticed, and by 1988, he made history as the firm’s youngest branch
manager.

In the heart of Portland, John took the reins of Smith Barney’s flagship
office, steering it through a period of robust growth in headcount and
revenue over an impressive ten-year span. His strategic prowess caught the
eye of UBS Financial Services, where he assumed the prestigious role of
Director and Executive Vice President, shepherding Oregon’s financial
strategies into the future.

When the tumultuous waves of the 2008 financial meltdown crashed
ashore, John charted a new course with Umpqua Holdings, spearheading
Strand Atkinson, Williams and York—a brokerage firm with a legacy dating
back to 1928. As President and CEO, he ignited a growth trajectory that
tripled the firm’s revenue, cementing its standing in the Pacific Northwest.
John’s expertise extended into shaping the minds and policies of the
industry. As Chairman of the Securities Industry/Regulatory Council on
Continuing Education for the New York Stock Exchange, he was a beacon
of knowledge and reform. His passion for financial education manifested in
the establishment of Portland Metro’s first program for the National
Academy of Finance, merging his expertise with a profound commitment to
empowering future generations with financial literacy.

Beyond the world of finance, John is a maestro of the culinary realm. A
vintner, chef, and proponent of the farm-to-table movement, he finds joy in
traveling to locales where food and wine are the heart of the culture. His
creativity and craftsmanship extend to fly fishing, the art of woodworking,
capturing the essence of the great outdoors through photography, and the
serene practice of gardening.

John Noble’s life and career are a blend of remarkable professional
achievements and a deep appreciation for the artisanal aspects of life,
making him a distinguished figure in both boardrooms and the natural
world.
